Cold Storage Warehouses & Distribution Centres

Large-Scale Builds

Cold Storage Warehouses & Distribution Centres

(Melbourne & Australia-wide)

We design and construct large-scale insulated building envelopes that achieve temperature requirements and integrate seamlessly with your entire business operation. From greenfield distribution centres to live-site retrofits, our full-service delivery encompasses the insulated panel system, doors, floor insulation and more. The result is a reliable, energy-efficient facility that protects your production and cold chain and supports long-term operational success.

What We Build

Doors and Windows

Precedent offers a complete range of custom cold storage door solutions, including our own hinged and sliding systems manufactured in-house. Every door can be specified with PVC strip curtains, viewing portals, kick plates, or integrated heating, helping to reduce condensation and maintain stable temperatures. Fixed windows can also be integrated into your build. We also provide rapid roll and high-speed doors designed for the unique demands of food production and freezer environments. Built for frequent use, they reduce air exchange, limit energy loss, and streamline traffic flow. With options such as insulated curtains, motion sensors, and bespoke sizing, these doors are engineered to keep your facility operating smoothly and efficiently.

Product Selection

Selecting the correct insulated panel product is essential for performance, compliance, and long-term value. We guide clients through all aspects of panel choice – from core material (EPS, PIR, or XFLAM) to thickness and surface profile – ensuring the system matches both operational needs and budget. Our expertise ensures every panel is specified to deliver the right balance of thermal efficiency, fire safety, durability, and visual finish. Whether you’re retro-fitting an existing facility or planning a brand-new build, we tailor panel selections to create a facility that performs reliably and looks sharp.

Design Consultation

Getting Precedent involved early in the design stage of your cold storage facility ensures the best outcome for your project. By working directly with you, the client, we can advise on insulated panel selection, layout, door systems, and floor insulation – making sure every detail is fit for purpose and compliant. Early consultation reduces the risk of costly redesigns or rework, shortens project timelines, and ensures that your facility achieves its temperature, hygiene and efficiency targets from day one. With over 45 years of experience, we bring proven insights that add value long before construction begins.

Temperature Control

Maintaining consistent thermal conditions is at the heart of every cold storage facility. At Precedent, we use a combination of floor insulation, underfloor heating, vapour barriers, and heated door frames to ensure your facility operates as efficiently as possible. These systems work together to prevent frost heave, reduce energy loss, and stop unwanted temperature transfer at critical junctions such as floors and doors. By carefully engineering each element, we create facilities that retain precise temperatures, minimise running costs, and safeguard the integrity of your cold chain.

FAQ's

Do I need floor insulation in my freezer or chiller?

For freezers and sub-zero rooms, insulated floors are essential to prevent frost heave and energy loss. For chillers, it depends on the operating temperature and site conditions.

Our solutions cover the full spectrum — from +15°C temperature-controlled rooms down to -40°C blast freezers.

We interface with your chosen refrigeration partner; our scope is insulated envelopes and doors with the option to provide a refrigeration proposal.

Yes, all materials meet HACCP and FSANZ requirements. We use hygienic finishes, easy-clean junctions, and comply with Australian Standards.
